Wargame Hobby Bingo

04/01/2018

I’ve spent a lot of time these last few years talking about RPGs. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it is a little ironic considering how little time I’ve actually spent these sorts of games.

I’ve decided to correct this in 2018. I’ve spent much more time over the last few years assembling, painting, and even playing wargames. It makes sense for me to find something related to this part of the hobby.

I’ll likely still take part in RPG a Day later in the year, but I’m also going to take part in different challenge across the year: Wargame Hobby Bingo from The Rob Hawkins Hobby Blog.

Unlike RPG a Day, Hobby Bingo is a more free-form based around completing a series of small goals. As with more traditional games of bingo, you ‘win’ once you mark off five activities on your board. It’s not competitive, it’s more a way to encourage us to try new things or complete projects that have been sitting in hobby limbo for too long.

Let’s take a look at the board:

At first glance, it’s clear that some of these activities are considerably easier to achieve than others. We could go through them one-by-one and work out the optimal route to bingo, but that’s not the point of the exercise. I want to see how many of these I can achieve over the next 12 months. I can’t guarantee I’ll complete them all, but I think I can get most.

I’ll write a new post each time I tick off a box. If I remember, I’ll also take photos of my work as proof I’m actually getting stuff done.
