RPGaDay 2017 – Day 10

Where do you go for RPG reviews?

Short Answer: Start with Google, followed by YouTube and DriveThruRPG.

Long Answer: It’s 2017, so the best place to begin a search for knowledge is Google (sorry Ask Jeeves and Bing). I can take a little practice to figure out the best search terms and while results are most relevant, but once you do it’s easy to find just about anything.

With this as a jumping off point, I can normally find what I’m after with a click or two. If I want something more, I’ll switch to the Video tab and see what’s available on YouTube. There are many other video hosting platforms, but you don’t often see RPG reviews on Vimeo. Checking for videos allows me to get a different style of review, as well as a literal look at the product.

Finally, I’ll check out the product’s listing on DriveThruRPG and see if there are any user reviews. This is a bit hit and miss depending on the product’s popularity, but when there are reviews they’re often of a high quality.

There are a bunch of other great sites out there. Odds are you’ll come across them as you search in Google. When you find one you like, make sure you bookmark it. Starting with Google works for me, but it may not work for you. Just remember that it’s a good place to return to if you can’t find anything on your regular sites.
