What is the best way to learn a new game?

Short Answer: Have the game run for you by an experienced GM.

Long Answer: Personally, I prefer to learn by doing. And doing with someone who knows what they’re doing is even better. That said, good GMs are not always good players, but that doesn’t matter much as long as they’re experienced with the system and have a good idea of how it should play at the table.

What if it’s an all new game? This certainly complicates things, but you can get around it by finding a game that shares similar themes and going from there. There are very few games that are unique.
