RPGaDay 2016 – Day 16
What historical character would you like in your group? For what game?
Short Answer: Robin Williams.
Long Answer: Seriously, what more needs to be said? Who wouldn’t want to spend a few hours with the man of a thousand voices, bubbling with enthusiasm. On top of this, he was a gamer in his private life (both RPGs and wargames). He even named his daughter (that’s her in the featured image) after the titular character of Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series.
As for the second part of today’s question, I think Robin’s talent enough would have seen him excel at just about any game, but I think something that skewed more towards comedy, or at least irreverence, would have been best. Paranoia or even Toon could have utilised his quick wit rather well, but a more serious game from the superhero genre could also have allowed him to really get into character.
I want to pause here to address the obvious. The question states “what historical character”. A few years ago, Robin was a character, but not a historical one. It has been just over two years since he decided to end his own life. I wish I wasn’t able to choose Robin, but here we are. If there is an afterlife maybe Robin’s there now doing his best impression of a loud mouthed dwarf while David Bowie’s elf shakes his head and their DM Gary Gygax struggles to stop himself from laughing so hard it derails the game.
