RPGaDay 2015 – Day 1: Forthcoming game you’re most looking forward to
Short Answer: Robert E. Howard’s CONAN Adventures In An Age Undreamed Of, Modiphius.
Long Answer: It’s been less than 10 years since Mongoose Publishing stopped releasing supplements for their D20 Conan Roleplaying Game. In that time, we’ve seen a couple of boardgames, a movie, and even an MMO all set in the Hyborian Age. It’s time for someone to release a pen and paper RPG.
That someone is Modiphius, possibly one of the most prolific producers of licensed RPG content. They recently released Achtung Cthulhu (Lovecraft’s mythos meets WW2), and are working on RPGs for Mutant Chronicles, Corvus Belli’s Infinity, and Paolo Parente’s Dust. They’ve also just announced a John Carter of Mars RPG, which will hopefully have better marketing behind it than the recent movie.
According to the announcement, Modiphus’s CONAN will use the 2D20 system they developed for Mutant Chronicles. It may sound like just another D20 spin-off, but it really isn’t. They are working closely with experts in the Hyborian Age, so it sounds like we’ll get a game that’s faithful to the source material. It all adds up to a lot of anticipation.
I hope it lives up to the expectations, by Crom!
